Excellent article Clayton!!

These are my takeaways.

A compelling narrative can be a powerful motivator. It provides a reason 'why' that goes beyond the day-to-day tasks. When team members feel they are part of a story with a meaningful end goal, their engagement and passion for the work can increase.

I relate this to Daniel Pink's book "Drive". There the author identifies Purpose as one of the fundamental elements that fuel intrinsic motivation:

Purpose and Narrative A narrative can imbue the product strategy with purpose, portraying the product's role in the larger context of the company's mission or the customers' lives. When team members feel that their work has a purpose, that they are contributing to a story bigger than any single task, it can greatly increase their intrinsic motivation.

A product narrative can serve as a powerful intrinsic motivator for self-organizing teams. It aligns personal drives with organizational goals, enabling teams to work with a high degree of engagement, autonomy, and effectiveness.
